Abstract(s) :

(Anglais) Abstract: In the context of an urgent medical humanitarian mission in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, observational participation research was conducted to contribute to a better understanding of the activities performed by the Intercultural Mediator (IM), the factors that trigger them and the social effects they induce. This ethnographic study shows that the IM is likely to engage in 14 types of (non)discursive activities that are not foreseen by the institution, driven by urgency, organisational contingencies, the vulnerabilities of the beneficiaries and institutional goals. The choices made by the IM shape his/her agency in the sense that they serve the social purpose of the mission, namely the exercise of the fundamental right to quality socio-medical care. These results contribute to discussion on the specificities of humanitarian interpreting. Keywords: Medical humanitarian mission, health crisis, intercultural mediator, agency, humanitarian interpreting.
