Abstract(s) :

(Anglais) A CFD study was made of combustion in a 30 kW natural gas fired furnace. The results are compared to measurements in the furnace and to other results from literature. A specific objective was to compare the heat transfer for two different burner configurations, providing operation in the flameless and the conventional combustion regimes, with 10% and 20% excess air. It is found that the total heat transfer to the cooling tubes is higher in the flameless cases, due to the relatively high convective heat transfer induced by the high velocity air jet. However, the radiative heat transfer to the cooling tubes is higher in the conventional cases, due to radiation from high temperature walls and a zone with high mean temperature.
