Abstract(s) :

(Anglais) The influence of the intermediate principal stress on the failure mode and the mechanical behaviour of a porous limestone is investigated by means of true triaxial tests conducted on dry rock samples. The experimental conditions range from triaxial (s2 = s3) to biaxial (or triaxial extension, s2 = s1) tests. The limiting envelopes are built in octahedral planes and in the (P,Q) plane in order to give a good understanding of the three-dimensional surface. The analysis of the limiting envelopes is performed with respect to the mean stress. For the first part of the envelopes, a shape evolution is observed from triangular at low mean stresses to hexagonal at intermediate mean stresses and quasi circular at higher mean stresses. This evolution is interpreted in the light of well-established failure criteria. A particular interest of this study on a porous limestone is the experimental determination of the cap surface by means of true triaxial tests.
