Abstract(s) :

(Anglais) Electroless nickel-boron coatings present interesting properties like high hardness, high corrosion resistance, excellent abrasion resistance and shape compliance during plating. Nowadays, electroless plating in alkaline borohydride bath requires a temperature of 95°C to reach a plating rate close to 15 µm/h. The use of ultrasound assistance during plating (with low frequency ultrasound: 20 and 35 kHz) to enhance the plating process was investigated. Characterization of the coatings by optical and electron microscopy, Inductively Coupled Plasma - Atomic Emission Spectrometry, roughness measurements, microhardness testing pin-on-disc wear test and potentiodynamic polarization showed that the use of ultrasound allowed an increase in the plating rate compared to the usual agitation methods, without significant negative influence on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the coating.
